Ground Truth Trekking

River through boulders

Boulders from an ancient landslide tower over this small river, even bridging it in one place. Small boulders are easy to navigate… quick steps from boulder-top to boulder-top allow swift progress. But these boulders were too large, and their edges provided chasms and cliffs to prevent our progress. They were eroding from a large mound sliced through the middle by the river. In some past century the mountainside must have given way, damming the river with these giants until it could cut a new way through.
