Pipelines for transporting oil from drill pads on Alaska's North Slope thread their way around myriad lakes, or in some cases cross them, attempting to minimize the route length over the tundra.  The distinctive right-angle bends in the pipeline allow it to flex as temperature varies by over 100 degrees F.
