Crowberry beneath the snow

Spring sun on the Chukchi coast penetrates the snow, warming the sand and plants beneath until they melt their way upwards. These little ice-greenhouses sometimes provide shelter for flies waking up with the spring, and soon they will expand to reveal the waking tundra.
