Coastline up and down

During earthquakes, like the magnitude 8.7 Nias earthquake about 10 days before this photo was taken, cause this small island to rise up out of the water. When it does, coral is exposed and dies in the air, but forest advances down the former beach to reclaim that territory. Then between earthquakes, the land subsides again, drowning the trees and allowing new coral to colonize the shallows.
