Aeolian grain-size transition

These huge dunes are primarily composed of fairly fine sand, but coarser grains, up to 2 or 3 mm across, are major constituents in certain areas.
— The dark ripples in the foreground are covered in such grains, and transition to the more uniformly rippled lighter-colored fine grained sand.
